China's railway authority said that it will ensure 'absolute safety' in the operation of high-speed railways after a deadly train crash on July 23 that claimed 40 dead and injured 191 others. By the end of 2010, 8,358 km of high-speed railways had been put into operation in China, ranking first in the world in terms of length. EPA/WU HONG. China will speed up the construction of its high-speed railway network, already the world's largest, official media reported 09 September 2014. The state railway company said it had increased investment in the first eight months of the year by 20 per cent, the Xinhua news agency reported. China will spend 800 billion yuan (130 billion dollars) on expanding its rail network this year. There are currently more than 10,000 kilometres of high-speed rail lines in China. EPA/WU HONG
